Investment Planning & Advice | Legacy Capital Management

Investment planning across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire

Putting your money to work is one of the most important things you can do to build the future you want, yet it is also where many people feel least confident. Good investment planning is about finding the right balance for you, and then reviewing it as life goes on.

Investment planning advice from Legacy Capital Management in Buckinghamshire

Investing with a plan, not a hunch

Good investing starts with your goals, not with products. What are you investing for, over what time frame, and how would you feel if the value fell in the short term? The answers shape everything that follows.

We take the time to understand your objectives and your attitude to risk, then help build an approach designed around them, rather than a one-size-fits-all portfolio. Without a clear plan, it is easy either to leave money sitting in cash, where inflation can erode its value over time, or to invest in ways that
expose you to risks you never intended to take.

It is worth being clear from the outset: investments can fall as well as rise, and you could get back less than you put in. That is precisely why the right approach depends on your time frame and how comfortable you genuinely are with those movements, rather than on what happens to be performing well this year.

How we help

Open each to see what it involves.

Understanding your goals and your attitude to risk

Everything starts here

We help you get clear on what you are investing for and how much risk you are genuinely comfortable with, because an investment plan only works if you can stick with it through the ups and downs.

Two people with the same amount to invest can need very different approaches. A pot you will not touch for twenty years and a deposit you need in three behave differently, and so does the person who checks values weekly compared with the person who would rather not look.

Putting your money to work

Invested in line with your goals and your risk profile

We help you invest in a way that matches your goals and your risk profile, so your money is working towards something rather than standing still or taking on risks you did not intend.

That includes making sensible use of the allowances available to you, and holding enough in cash that a short-term need never forces you to sell at the wrong moment. Investments can fall as well as rise, and you could get back less than you put in.

Keeping your plan on track

Reviewed as your life changes, not left to drift

Investing is not something you do once and forget. We review your investments with you over time, so your plan keeps pace with your life, your goals, and the world around you.

In practice, the most valuable part of a review is often the conversation that stops a decision being made in a panic. Reviews are also where we check the plan still reflects what has changed for you, rather than what has changed in the headlines.

How it works

Goals first, products last

01

A short conversation

A call or video call about what the money is for and when you will need it, before anything else. No obligation, and nothing to prepare.

02

How much risk suits you

Discussed properly rather than reduced to a score, including how you would react to a fall.

03

A written recommendation

What we suggest, why, what it costs, and what could go wrong. In plain language.

04

Regular reviews

We speak regularly, by phone or video, to check the plan still fits your life, and adjust it when it does not.

Investing alongside the rest of your plan

Your investments do not sit on their own. They connect to your pensions, your tax position, your protection and your longer-term plans. Because we advise across the whole of your financial life, we help make sure your investments work sensibly alongside everything else.

Investment questions we are asked most

How much risk should I take?

Enough to give your money a realistic chance of meeting your goal, and not so much that you would abandon the plan in a bad year. That balance is personal, and it depends on your time frame as much as your temperament. An investment plan only works if you can stick with it through the ups and downs.

Is it better to keep money in cash?

For short-term needs and an emergency fund, yes. Beyond that, money left in cash quietly loses value to inflation over time. The question is not cash or investments but how much of each, and over what time frame.

What happens if markets fall after I invest?

Values go down as well as up, and you could get back less than you put in. That is the trade-off for the prospect of growth above inflation. What matters is that your plan is built so a fall does not force you to sell, which is why we look at your time frame and your cash needs before anything is invested.

I already have investments. Can you review them?

Yes, and that is often where we start. We look at what you hold, what it costs you, how much risk it is actually taking, and whether it still matches what you are trying to achieve. Sometimes the answer is that it does, and we will tell you so.

Start with your goals

Whether you are new to investing or want a second opinion on what you already have, a conversation about your goals is the best place to start. No obligation.
