Financial adviser in Gerrards Cross
Gerrards Cross is ten minutes from our office and one of the areas we are asked about most. The advice people need here tends to involve larger sums, and rather more moving parts.
Advice for a town where the numbers are larger
Gerrards Cross is one of the more expensive places to live in the county, and that changes the shape of the advice rather than just the size of it. Mortgages here are frequently above the level high street lenders handle comfortably, particularly where income includes bonuses, dividends or earnings from self-employment. Getting those cases agreed is as much about how the case is presented as which lender it goes to.
Inheritance tax is the other recurring theme. A family home in GX can take an estate past the threshold on its own, and it is usually the parents rather than the children who want to talk about it. Planning early gives you options that quietly close later on, so it is a conversation worth having sooner than most people do.
Many of the people we work with here commute into London, or did until recently. That leaves a familiar trail: two or three old pensions, a share scheme nobody has looked at properly, and a plan that has never been written down. Pulling it into one picture is usually the most useful hour we spend together.

Gerrards Cross is a ten minute drive from the office, so most first meetings here happen in person.
Some clients would rather we came to them, particularly for the first conversation and when there is paperwork to go through together. Others would rather keep it short and do it by video between meetings. We work either way, and most people end up with a mix of the two.
Questions we are asked locally
Do you handle larger mortgages?
Yes, and it is a good part of what we do locally. We offer a comprehensive range of first charge mortgages from across the market, which lenders make available to mortgage intermediaries, for which we will be paid a procuration fee by the lender. We do not consider products which are only offered directly to the public from a lender (direct deals).
My income is mostly bonus and dividends. Is that a problem?
It is a complication rather than a problem. Lenders treat variable income very differently from one another, so the work is in presenting it properly and going to the right lender first rather than finding out the hard way.
When should we start thinking about inheritance tax?
Earlier than most families do. A good deal of estate planning depends on time, so options that are open in your sixties may not be in your eighties. Starting early also means the decisions are yours rather than your children’s.
